“And you know that I cannot. Your ransom will be paid from my coffers and I will return to the Gyrfalcon to chase you once again.” Phillip’s voice was weary but resolute. “I cannot remain.”
“You will enjoy your time here, then,” Steven said, a dark note of promise in his voice, and Phillip frowned. “You will remain tethered to the bed as my pleasure warrants until, of course, your ransom is paid. A thousand English guineas, a half ton of salted pork, and a ton of wine in cask. Inexpensive enough for a man of your taste, no?”
He plopped down on his chair, placing booted feet up on the desk as he regarded Phillip.
“Why are you doing this?” he asked, shaking with anger. That would put a huge dent in his coffers, far more than he could afford this trading season with the constant pirate attacks.
“The ransom can very well be forgotten, me lord, but you will remain in my hands until it is paid,” Steven said, looking smug. “It is not the money I want.”
Phillip sighed, his hands dangling between his knees. “We will gather the necessary ransom, you’ll see.”
Steven smiled. “Me lord, I’m almost counting on it. Now. Up on the bed if you please.”
“The bed?” Phillip asked. “Surely you don’t intend…”
“But I do. Up you hop, little popinjay. We’ll see if you sing as brightly as you do when I am done with you.”
Admiral Phillip Chambers is on the wrong end of the sword as the Falcon loses a boarding battle with the Falcon, captained by the rakish Steven Ryan — a man he’s crossed swords with, and in more ways than one! Captured and with his crew left for dead, Phillip must do whatever it takes to survive, including share a bed with a pirate he can’t quite deny.
Phillip is at the pirate’s mercy in The Privateer, book one of the Pirate’s Passion, only from JJ Collins.
